HILO (HawaiiNewsNow) – Hawaii Island flooding claimed at least one vehicle on this First Alert Weather Day.
Robert Manion snapped a photo of a submerged vehicle on South Kopua Road in Puna’s Eden Roc neighborhood near Mountain View Monday.
Look closely and you can see the top of what appears to be an SUV that got trapped in the floodwaters.
We have no reports of any injuries from the area.
Heavy rain and flooding triggered the closures of Pauahi Street, Pohaku Street, Kahikopele Street and North Kulani Road.
Officials urge residents to be prepared for additional closures.
Hawaii News Now declared Monday and Tuesday as a First Alert Weather Days for Hawaii Island.
A flood advisory was in effect for much of Monday morning.
A flash flood warning was issued shortly after noon and was extended several times through the evening.
